CONCERT BAND
Music & Dramatic Arts

Grades: 7, 8
Full Year Course

Concert Band is a course for students who play the following instruments: flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, and percussion. All students selecting Concert Band should have at least one year of playing experience in a school band or individual private lessons. Students will develop individual playing skills while learning to contribute to the success of a large performing ensemble. Students are expected to show improvement on their instruments at a reasonable pace and to practice at home as much as necessary to perform their parts effectively throughout the school year. Rehearsals culminate in a presentation of two required evening concerts during the school year. Students are evaluated through proficiency exams, written tests, homework assignments, and participation.

Students will also have an opportunity to audition for regional music festivals. Those selected have the privilege of performing with other outstanding student musicians and working with well-known area conductors. Students are expected to provide their own instruments, in good condition, with common accessories.
