Music Theory grade of B- or better, two years of a high school performing ensemble,
and Teacher Recommendation
This course is designed for those students who have a serious interest in music as a career
or who plan to elect music as a major or minor beyond high school. Due to the amount of
independent work, students must be able to keep themselves motivated and on task.
Unit topics will include advanced theory, history of Western music, conducting, composition,
research projects, and individual performances. Students will be continuing studies on the
piano keyboards.
Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:
- gain extensive knowledge of many musical careers
- apply essential knowledge to write, arrange, and conduct music compositions
- have a basic knowledge of the history of western music
- analyze and solve musical problems through independent music performances
