GWYNNE SOUSA
Director of Fine & Performing Arts K-12



Ms. Sousa received her Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, a Master in Music in Voice Performance from The Boston Conservatory, and a Master of Music in Opera from Temple University. Ms. Sousa's students are active in all aspects of singing including, classical, opera, musical theatre, jazz and commercial music. Ms. Sousa has served as both assistant manager and manager for the Southeast District Chorus. Currently she is the Director of Fine & Performing Arts at Pembroke High School where she oversees the Music and Art K-12 departments. At Pembroke she is the director of the Freshmen Girls Choir, Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Men's Choir, Women's Choir, Faculty Choir, and the vocal director for the annual school musical. In addition to serving as the manager for the 2008 All- State Chorus, Ms. Sousa serves on the MMEA Executive Board as the administrative representative.

Her choral ensembles have received numerous awards and distinctions, including performing during the concert hour at the Massachusetts All- State Music Educators Conference in 1999. She is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, the Music Educators National Conference.

A diverse performer, Ms. Sousa has appeared in recital, concert, opera, and musical theater productions throughout the Northeast. She enjoys singing contemporary music and created the role of Hortensia in the world premiere of the opera, Dr. Franklin by Maurice Wright. She sang the world premiere of Alba Potes' Canciones Nocturnes at the New Music Festival in Philadelphia. Her past recitals include appearances with the Tanglewood Music Center, South Shore Conservatory's Evening Under the Stars, and the Tuesday Evening Recital Series, Plymouth. Most recently she was heard singing the role of the Mother Abbess in The Company Theatre's production of The Sound of Music, the soprano solo in the Brahms Requiem with the Fine Arts Chorale, Carmen Ghia in PDQ Bach's The Stoned Guest and the role of the witch in Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel with South Shore Conservatory's Opera By The Bay.
